Quarantine and rehabilitate
The receiving plan provides for a minimum 90-day quarantine, veterinary care and rehabilitation. Individual needs may require longer care.

GCA designees will review prospective homes, housing, care knowledge and the ability to meet a chinchilla’s long-term needs.
Keep the network ready
The rescue building will continue supporting future emergencies and other rescue needs as animals move to suitable homes.
THE GCA VISION
Built around the animals.
Temporary rescue housing and lifelong sanctuary residency serve different needs. Rescue animals will receive care while suitable placements are explored. The sanctuary will provide a lifetime home for its residents.
Companion-Book will support animal identification, care histories, herd-management records and placement documentation. GCA’s team will coordinate recipient inquiries and practical care capacity.

The Illinois facility will not breed chinchillas. Its role is care, rehabilitation, pet-home placement and lifetime sanctuary. GCA’s wider mission also supports ethical breeders who put animal welfare first.

The Ohio R & R case accelerated GCA’s plans. GCA offered to receive the herd, but receipt is not confirmed. The commitment to establish this resource continues regardless of where those animals are placed.
